How to Measure
① Lift the daylight plate and place 1–2 drops of the liquid to be tested on the prism
pour it in slowly.
2 Lower the daylight plate gently to avoid trapping air

When the scale is marked 'Brix', the refractometer measures the concentration of sugar (sucrose).
Since refractometers with Brix scales are most commonly used, they are generally referred to as
'sugar meters' (saccharimeters). In this case, the scale is calibrated exclusively for sugar content,
so it cannot be used for other substances. For example, to measure salt concentration,
please use a refractometer with a scale designed for salt concentration.
What is a Refractometer?
When a straw is placed in a glass of water and viewed from the side, the straw appears bent.
This occurs because light bends when passing between media of different densities (specific gravities), such as air and water.
Furthermore, the higher the density, the greater the bending of light.
A refractometer uses this property to measure the degree of light bending on a
graduated scale.
How does it measure? (Principle of the Refractometer)
In short, the answer is no.
Consider a liquid containing various components such as sugars and salts. For example,
if you measure this liquid with a Brix-scale refractometer, it does not display
only the sugar content value. It measures the overall concentration
of the liquid. Therefore, if you want to see only the sugar concentration or only the salt
concentration of a liquid separately, a refractometer is not sufficient — a different instrument (analytical
equipment) is required.
